Tour 1_Before Coimbra, the Roman city
Coimbra has one of the best preserved Roman cryptoporticus in the Iberian Peninsula. A monumental work, on which the current Machado de Castro National Museum is based. This walking tour includes the descent to the cryptoporticus, the museum’s collections and also other areas associated with the construction of this urban space.

Tour 2_Rural echo in the city: spaces and writers
With a university that is over 700 years old, Coimbra has hosted many important authors of Portuguese literature. This walking tour begins with a visit to the Casa Museu Miguel Torga, where the writer lived. It passes by João Cochofel’s house, where in the mid-20th century there were tertúlias gathering intellectuals and artists. It also includes a stop at Jardim da Sereia, which until the 19th century was part of the Monastery of Santa Cruz, but became a central place for leisure and reflection in the upper town.

Tour 3_Building terroir: wines from the Bairrada region
Visit to a farm that produces, stores and sells wines in the Demarcated Region of Bairrada. With a secular experience of production, Bairrada gives rise to several wines and specially sparkling wines. The farm is located about 45 minutes by bus from the city of Coimbra, with transport provided by the organization of the congress.

Congress Dinner, Casa das Caldeiras restaurant (Coimbra)
The dinner takes place in a space that once had industrial functions connected to the old university hospitals, but all the equipment was preserved. The menu is based on Portuguese cuisine, consisting of several starters, a fish dish, a meat dish, various desserts and coffee. There is a vegetarian option, which must be requested in advance. In addition to non-alcoholic drinks, white, red and sparkling wines from the Bairrada Demarcated Region are included.
